a few words about me

  • Hi, I'm Richard W. Butler from Biddeford, ME. I specialize in retirement income.

I help my clients plan and implement retirement income strategies to care for themselves and those they love and share their lives with.

    WHO I AM

I've lived in Biddeford since 1997. I grew up in Media, PA, a few miles west of Philadelphia, along with my sister and three brothers. My folks met in college and married shortly thereafter. My dad, a former Navy officer, is from Waterville, ME and was a sales and marketing executive for more than 25 years. My mom was a homemaker and served on the PTA and various local community boards. Today, they're enjoying their retirement in Boothbay Harbor, ME.

I attended Penncrest High School in Media and went on to earn my B.A. in History from Nasson College in Springvale, ME. I hold FINRA licenses 6, 7, 63 and 65 in Maine, Massachusetts and Georgia. I have two grown sons, Lucas and William and one grandson to date, Garrett. I'm active in the community, regularly hosting free financial planning seminars at McArthur Library in Biddeford as well as being involved with various local charities and initiatives, including Heart of Biddeford/Adopt-a-Park, Community Bicycle Center (CBC) and Friends of 5 Points.

    HOW I GOT HERE

I began my adult life after college as a designer at Bath Iron Works. I've been in the personal finance field since 1994 having helped countless individuals, couples and families plan for their futures. Before starting R.W. Butler Capital, Inc., I co-founded and eventually sold a thriving practice in Biddeford advising individuals, families and employers on the use of ERISA and non-ERISA investment accounts. Beginning in 1995, I jointly grew assets under advisement from $0 to well over $100 million by 2011.  I have had broad and deep experience in the use of Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and personal trusts to own and manage all types of investment accounts that coordinate and improve outcomes for trustees, income beneficiaries and remaindermen. I have since developed an expertise in goals-based investing by matching investment strategies to individualized accumulation and income needs.

    WHAT I STAND FOR

I have a vision that all people can enjoy a secure retirement by making empowered financial decisions regarding their resources in order to provide the reliable income they need to care for themselves and those they love and share their lives with. In the words of Suze Orman, "I value people first, then money, then things." I am guided by the principles of integrity, courage, perseverance and service. My overriding goal is to help successful couples enjoy successful retirement. I've seen it proven time and again that you don't have to belong to the proverbial 1% in order to enjoy a comfortable and rewarding retirement.

    MY MISSION

I help people live and celebrate meaning-filled lives by aligning their savings and investments to support their most cherished values and beliefs.
